Interview Friday

Got a call from my last employer for a new position that opened up. Its a more detailed position doing more advanced work for what I am currently doing now.

There are some pros and cons to the position though. There is some travel involved a few days out of state doing security information auditing. The pros are that once we are done we take the information back home and work from home until the next facility is ready for their review. It will be about 20 percent travel per month but working from home the other 80 percent is what I am finding appealing. Currently I have a long commute and its killing me, literally. It makes each day feel like I get up, drive to work, come home eat dinner and try and study a little and then go to bed.

The new position will have me go to one site and be there for a few days, not running around all over the place.

Travel will be a couple of states including Washington D.C. and a couple of places overseas Italy but mainly Hawaii. (yea I know its a state...) Doubt I will be able to sight see or anything.

I was hesitant at first but now I feel pretty confident for my phone screening because I already know the job and what it will require and I have 7 years experience specifically doing what this will require.

Anyways travel is paid for and work from home will save me almost 3K a year in gas. And 2 hours of a commute each day.

Plus they are talking about a 20 percent pay increase.

Somehow I need to study up a bit before Friday so I dont make a fool of myself and figure out what the hell this person wants that keeps kicking back one of my assignments at WGU...... the comments they post on the feedback contradicts itself....

Well it was not much of an interview. They wanted to check with me to see what exactly I could do for the project. They answered all my questions. They said my scorecard was pretty much their highest they had. Which was degree,CISSP, experience etc. Then we talked salary for a bit. They were hiring around 20 people and they said I will get in the first round of hiring or the second group which starts soon also. Not holding my breath though but we will see.

I'd jump all over that new job, provided you're ok with working with your former employer.

I've had some boring jobs that I loved, because my co-workers and superiors were fun to work with, and some crap jobs, because of the opposite.

Anytime working from home is a win in my book.

    Good luck

Update: got the verbal offer today. They are fedexing the actual offer letter today. Got a 10 percent increase but my gas usage for work will drop to zero which is a huge plus.

More good news. A buddy of mine is about to lose his job this week. We were carpooling for a bit since he works near me. Anyways I was told they needed to hire 20 more Security people. I referred him to HR and they are talking now. He is a perfect fit though.

Congrats man! It's always nice to get counter offers; shows how much you were valued....I never accepted any of mine, of course, but it was always nice to get them. :)

    Good luck.
