Hi,
For anyone that has wendell Odom's book could someone just confirm this for me ?
On Page 210 of ICND2 (VLSM) he refers to a diagram of an internetwork which uses VLSM, he then goes through the process of adding a new subnet to the existing design. The first subnet of 172.16.0.0/23 is unused so that is fine. But then he goes on to say that if no subnet zero is used the correct answer would be 172.16.8.0/23 because the other subnets are in use. Ok that’s all fine, however, in the diagram 172.16.9.1/30, 172.16.9.2/30, 172.16.9.5/30, 172.16.9.6/30 are all in use so that will cause an overlap.
Can someone just confirm that I am correct in saying he got it wrong and the next available subnet is 172.16.10.0/23 (in the case of no subnet zero)?
Thanks

OptionsMonkerz Member Posts: 842Go to CiscoPress.com and download the ERRATA for your book. I just pulled this from it and it explains the mistake they made.Page 210 – 1 paragraph after table 5-4 – 2nd line – instead of "second, third, and fourth subnets…", it should read "second, third, and fifth subnets…". Then, in the next paragraph, 3rd to last line, the reference to "172.16.8.0/23" should instead be "172.16.6.0/23".
Its great that you can find a mistake like this. Means your are actually learning the material. Good Job. You can pickup the errata from here:

I Didn't realise that there was an errata so this is a big help.
I still got the answer wrong because i said .10 and not .6 but i was more concerned with the mistake at the time.
