Hi Good people ,
I am a 26 year old CCSP and MCSA , i have worked with cisco in india mainly as an outsourcer in the VPN TAC as secuity engineer so i do have hands on cisco deviices.and microsoft technolgies , and some linux too (mostly self taught ) !!i have alos worked in checkpoint , velocity raptor and other non cisco firewalls .

I have almost 2. 5 yeares ex as of now and I am a 3 year bachlor of computer application graduate , i am planning to do my MS in network security or information assurance from US cos in some universites ithe MS prrogram is information assurance , by the time i will start my MS i will have about 3 year rougly may be 1 or 2 month less experiance. which is august 2005 .

I also speak fluent french , some spanish and play the violin (though it is irrelavant here but thought might mbe helpful ) and i love aero modelling which is also my hobby

I am an Indian needless to say and My question is will doing my MS will it improve my standing cos i have worked in network security and have relavant ex in it as well ,
if so , then by how much and what are my possibilities of getting a job in the US and Europe after my MS and duriing my MS will it be possible to get a part time job to support myself with some money atleast cos its so expensive out there .

Would really appreciate if you'll can tell me this as i have not much people to ask..

thanks very much
i

Also Please tell me that if do my masters from a place such as Southern Methodist which is NOT an NSA Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education

and say northeastern University which is NSA Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education
.
so in this case will a person doing a MS from Northeastern U be given more preference when it comes to getting a Job than someone doing it from Southern Methodist,
If so why ??

Pleease let me know cos i have to apply and the deadlines are fast approaching.

well, i think it really depends on what you r up to. if you planning to do field work i think your certs like those you have is enough. but if you r planning to be lecturer then you might want yourself an MS degree or even higher - because certs will not count as official curriculum to get in the country.
and btw, you r really great by having those security certs. :D
the More I know, that is more and More I dont know.

    Hi charset.
    Thanks for your reply !!
Well you see my main idea behind doing my masters is that i dont have a BE or en engineering degree , amd i want to be a security expert ,, which will take its own time of course. but what i just want to know that will i get a job while stuidyig just to support myself with my exp and certifcations that i have..

well, if you dont have BE than you could probably go to MS in Information Mgmt - so called "IT in general" - and that is the fartest enough for non IT/Engineering people who want to get their MS.
but for me, if you take the CCIE in Sec -> that would be OK enough, considering Specialist you already have.
i've heard a new major in IT is Forensic IT, but i'm not too excited about it -> you know it maybe that log thing, hashing etc. :D

Any Master's degree will improve your status, especially if the degree is in the field you want to pursue. Hey, if you want to just be a techie and configure WANs and routers, then stick with the certifications. If you want to be the one to make important security decisions, and plan and support a company's security IT infrastructure, then get your Masters degree. I find it that the best IT managers and decision makers are the one's who have a technical background, because they've gotten their hands dirty working with all the great gadgets and systems in the IT world. For me, I'd like to make decisions and be a techie, so I'm going after my certs and hopefully a Master's degree soon, although I do just technical stuff right now.
