Introduction
I've been lurking around the forums since January and I've posted here and there, but I thought I'd do a formal introduction to myself to everyone.
I've been in IT since 2000, starting off in a help desk/business process analyst/ISO auditor role with an international shipping company. I did that job for about 8 years then after some changes in the job, I found a position as a Fed. contractor as a tech support specialist (aka help desk). I had wanted to get in to contracting for a while, and it was a new challenge.
I hadn't been in that job 9 months when our sys. admin resigned and I took his job. Besides managing our sever farms, I was responsible for the security auditing of our server/client systems. I really enjoyed doing that, and it really got me interested in IT security. I also got the opportunity to set up and migrate our Windows storage over to a NetApp appliance. Working with the NetApp engineer on this project was really cool - but the highlight for me was cleaning up all the horrible share permissions we had on the Windows storage side and making it very clean and organized.
After 2 and a half years on that job I got the opportunity to become a contractor with another company/government agency. Currently I am the Windows sys admin for a testing lab. The lab writes IT security policy as well as designing software to scan for policy compliance. It's a small lab, we have 3 test VMWare servers with dozens of various Windows systems on them (this is not counting the other servers we have running AD/DNS/DHCP/WSUS etc.
Since my start in March I've been up to my neck writing policy and creating GPO's for Server 2008 R2. My next project will be working on security configurations for IIS 7.5.
Certification wise, I have my MCSE: Security, MCSA: Security (Win 2K on both). I've been working on my MCITP: EA and 2/5's of the way done on that. I got my Sec.+ in Feb and just recently I sat the SANS GSEC course and passed the test. I'm enrolled for the GCIH boot camp in another few weeks, so hopefully I can add another SANS cert to my profile.
So that is kind of me in a nutshell. I just wanted to officially introduce myself to everyone and say hi. I'll try to help out whenever I can!

My parents use to own a house on IOP (back in the mid 90's). I lived with them for 3 years when I graduated from USC. I loved IOP then - it wasn't crazy full of McMansions. Of course winter time there was better than the summer (aka no tourists).CISSP | CISM | ACSS | ACIS | MCSA:2008 | MCITP:SA | MCSE:Security | MCSA:Security | Security + | MCTS -
Optionssteve13ad Member Posts: 398 ■■■■□□□□□□We used to live on Seahorse Court (off Waterway). Those McMansions are everywhere down there. The street that I grew up on over in Mt Pleasant is nothing but them now.
It's pretty surreal checking out the street view on G-Maps. -

Their house was on Waterway (I can't remember what the cross street was). There was a tee right from the back yard, we'd go out there at night and hit golf balls.
The neighborhood I grew up in Mt Pleasant luckily was pretty much filled when I graduated HS and moved to Columbia, so there wasn't much to change there.
Where did you go to HS?CISSP | CISM | ACSS | ACIS | MCSA:2008 | MCITP:SA | MCSE:Security | MCSA:Security | Security + | MCTS
