Laser Printer, When do you upgrade or replace?

Our company currently has several laser printers. When is the best time to replaced older models? Do you look at page count or years of service? How do you determine when it's time to replace the printer?

When its out of warranty and breaks,

    when its end of life,

When it can no longer accept print jobs because it it two low spec,

when it is to slow to keep up with demands.

We generally will run a printer in to the ground (don't fix what is not broke), departments are responsible for there own upgrades. But once a printer is end of life we will not support it. If it works then its find but if there becomes issues with new software / print server, then its hard luck. (We inform users if their printer is going end of life).

However we have some laser jets that are 9+ years old. may be one person using them in an office and it works fine for them. Why pay out money to replace it?

What DevilWAH said. Unless there is a reason to, we don't replace the printers even if they're old. Reasons such as not worth fixing, consumables are now expensive or the users need some extra feature.
