Question about MS Product licensing
Hello,
I know we have some MS experts and Admins here so I am hoping that you can help me out.
Although we have an "OPEN" licensing agreement with MS for the licensing of our MS products. This allows me to access the licensing site and checkup on VLK and such but I was wondering what is the best way to handle MS licensing when it comes to purchasing new computers.
We are initiating a desktop refresh project in the company which will allow me to configure and order HP workstations. The WS ship with the OEM MS 2007 SB software/license. But we also have the option of going the other route and purchasing an open license of MS 2010 Standard but at least for $100 more per license. So here we are.
My question basically is the best way to tackle and manage the MS licensing for the new desktops? COST is KEY but manageability and future installs/re-installs is a concerns also.
Appreciate the Thoughts and comments from current sys admins and IT Managers.
Thanks.

I think there is a mechanism to convert OEM licensing to open licensing within 60 days or something like that but frankly the whole Microsoft licensing is a minefield and I'd be afraid to give solid advice on it. Try the second link as I think it is what you are talking about.
