I have having trouble with the copy running-config tftp command. it is not working.
i have a 1700 series cisco router. I am connecting to it via the console port and the ethernet port.
i am putting in the IP address of the laptop. then specify the file name of a file on have on the root in the c drive.
i get the error msg. error opening the location and name of my file.

i installed solar winds tftp server but this has not helped either.
anyone else struck this problem during their ccna study?

I use Tftpd32 and have never had any problems. It creates a directory so you just need to copy the files you want to copy to (or from) your router into there.

Make sure you can ping the PC from the router first though.

It would actually help if you pasted in the output of your terminal session so that we could see what you did type and what the error message actually said....

But the usual tftp issues/suspects are:

Security in your tftp server isn't set to allow downloading of files

The location where you put the file doesn't match the "tftp root" location configured in your tftp server

You are hiding common file extensions on your PC and don't see the .bin at the end of the IOS file name -- so you're using an incomplete file name in your command. c2600-blah is not the same as c2600-blah.bin

    PC firewall is preventing access

Solarwinds is the tftp server where you usually need to configure security.

I think Pumpkin works for uploads/downloads by default.

You don't. Hopefully since you got it working quickly and there aren't that many posts to read, people will notice you found a solution on their own. But some other people who are sleeping in this fine Saturday morning might want to suggest a different/better tftp server or mention another common tftp issue that I didn't remember...
