Renew 640-801 CCNA with CCNA:Voice?

mattrgeemattrgee Member Posts: 201
Hi all,

My friend holds the 640-801 CCNA (the previous exam) and has been told that taking the CCNA:Voice won't renew it, is that correct? I was convinved it would.

Can anyone clarify?

Thanks.

CCNA certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, pass the ICND2 exam, or pass the current CCNA exam, or pass a CCNA Concentration exam (wireless, security, voice), or pass the current CCDA exam, or pass any 642 - XXX professional level or Cisco Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or pass a current CCIE or CCDE written exam.

The only reason it wouldn't get recertified is if they already missed their recertification date.

The CCNA Certification is good for 3 years. If they missed recertification they no longer have a valid CCNA to recertify and have to start over if they want the CCNA again.

James posted the link showing that the CCNA:Voice will recertify a valid CCNA.
