Hey guys, ive completed my 70-271 and 70-272, im working towards my MCSA, as you know you need to have a 70-270, does my qualification not allow me to be classed as a 270? do i have to take the 270 even though ive done its content? Thanks in advance, Sam.

If its MCSA or MCSE you're after, you're still required to take a client exam (70-270, 70-680 (recommended), or 70-620). The 70-271 and 70-272 only classify you as MCDST.

It is a very different perspective on XP in 270 in comparison with MCDST take on XP. In 270, it's XP in enterprise networks context and MCDST is support for end-user.
If I had MCDST and wanted to make my MCSA path easier, I'd stick with XP and take 270 as a client exam and 680 as an elective. That would shorten my prep time and make one of the 4 exams easier pass.

The 270 and 271 books from MS press have chapters that are almost identical. That being said, the 270 IS geared more towards enterprises. Having passed the 271/272, the 270 should not be that hard. Set up a lab and do some hands-on and look over the objectives.

You can also upgrade your MCDST to the MCIPT: Enterprise support technician for W7 by taking the 70-682 exam. It is a big jump, though.

    Good luck!

You still need the 270 (or 680) but the MCDST will count as your elective.

If you choose the 270, probably half will be review. If you go 680, you will find new (but similar) material, and can boast of your windows 7 knowledge as well as having 1 test done for your MCITP. (And a MCTS)
Decide what to be and go be it.
