I'm a CCNA!

in CCNA & CCENT
I love saying that
Passed the ICND2 today with a 920 after several months of studying. It's been a long road with lots of reading and lab time, but it was all worth it. The test was straight forward...no surprises. My resources were:
Odem ICND2 book
CBT Nuggets
Todd's Sybex book
Boson Netsim
Home lab (2-2620XM, 1-2620, 1-2950)
Just like the ICND1, if you can handle the Boson exam that comes with the Cisco Press book....you're ready. That practice exam made my head hurt many a night.
Security+ is next on my hit list and will be the kickoff to my MCSA/MCSE 2k3 trek. I'll be coming back to Cisco, no doubt. But upping my M$ skills is going to help out alot in my day-to-day job. I'm doing desktop support but they are starting to throw a few Jr. Sys Admin tasks my way now that I've been here long enough to prove I'm not an idiot
Good luck to everyone!

Congratulations on the pass, and your new designation as CCNA certified.
Good luck with the Security+ studies. I'm sure you'll find that going into the exam with CCNA-level knowledge will help you a great deal in understanding how to secure network devices.

What kind of labbing did you do? Simulators, real gear or both.No longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives. -

Congratulations! Hey man where did you have to go to take the CCNA? Per what I searched looks like I will have to go to East Central Ms CC in Decatur Ms.
Also if you would like to sell your Todd Lamely book please let me know, I could meet you some where and pick it up as long as it is in good shape still. Also if you are wanting to sell your home lab I am looking for the pieces you own, for I am on the CCNA path now, and I am building my own home lab.
- Thanks and once again congratulations.Currently Reading: Again to Carthage - CCNA/Security -

@earweed - I started out with a simulator, but tossed it when it didn't support the switch commands I was trying to lab in the first few chapters of the ICND1. After that I started ebaying for real gear and ended up with 3 routers and a switch. I had another switch or two, but had to give them up when I changed jobs.
@sthompson - I did have to drive to Decatur for my exam. I took my ICND1 at New Horizons on Lakeland, but sometime between then and now they stopped proctoring for Pearson Vue and only do Prometric. So, the closest testing center went from 5 min away to 1.5 hours.
I actually read the Todd Lammle book on my Safari Books account online. I never purchased it, sorry. I've toyed with the idea of selling my lab, but I think I'm going to come back to Cisco in a year or so. As long as that's a possibility I'm going to hang on to my gear. I got all mine on ebay, though. You just have to keep an eye out for those deals.CISSP | CCNA:R&S/Security | MCSA 2003 | A+ S+ | VCP6-DTM | CCA-V CCP-V -

@sthompson_ you can probably get a couple 2950 switches real cheap on ebay (that's what I did) If your electrical system in your house is anywhere near as archaic as mine was you may need to do some electrical upgrading prior to running a Cisco lab. I just installed a new breaker and ran a new line to my office. I already have 2 computers and peripherals loading down that circuit so the 2 switches caused my breaker to trip everytime I had the switches powered on. I'm an experienced (ex) electrician so don't do it yourself unless you know the codes for where you live and know what you're doing. Hopefully your existing wiring circuits can handle the load.No longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives. -

For sure going to do some more buying on Ebay this weekend. I already purchased a 2611 and a 29** series switch for cheap. I am probably going to go ahead and get another 2611 this weekend or what ever I can get 2611+ series for cheap. - ThanksCurrently Reading: Again to Carthage - CCNA/Security -

Tell me about it....it's surprising the number of MS techies I've run into on here.
As far as what's next, I passed my Security+ since this thread was started and I'm working on the MCSA/E now. I'd love to do network stuff, but in my department I have a much better chance of being promoted to the systems team than network. We've only got 2 network guys and it has been that way for a while.
I actually saw a position online over there at your place....internet specialist or something to that effect. I thought about applying, but I haven't been at my current job long enough to be hopping around. How many network type guys does your company employ?CISSP | CCNA:R&S/Security | MCSA 2003 | A+ S+ | VCP6-DTM | CCA-V CCP-V -

xenodamus : Congrats Man, Hopefully I could take and pass my first Certification next year which is CCNA. I will be undergoing a bootcamp first here in the Philippines before I have the exam. For now I am undergoing some reviews and self-studies. Unfortunately I am using only Packet Tracer for Hands-On/simulator. whew, but it is better than nothing.
Again Congrats to you!!! -
