Local and Global Server Load balancing

What are the differences?

As I understand it local server load balancing would be servers in the same location load balancing, while Global load balanced would be loadbalancing across mutiply sites.

So a 2 tier arangment, with load balancing between data centers and further load balancing with in the data centers?

Or is there more to it than this? Any one have any good documentation that might help ?
