Hello all
I am on mine way to recive CCNA certificate, and after it I'll go for CCNP.But somehow I am interested in microsoft certification, and I would like to expand mine Networking ( In general ) knowledge, but I am not sure for which Microsoft certificate should I go for...
Mine CCNA instructor told me that, a MCITP is the best choice because it will fit most with cisco certificates... but I am not sure about that, because I don't know anything about microsoft certifiaction, and when I check their site, it's is kinda confusing
Looking forward to see some answers:) thanks in advance
sry for mine English

Thats the basic Active Directory cert.
Then there's the 70-642, which focuses a bit more on DHCP and other network services, which led me to, as a mainly cisco guy, to focus on that.
However, the 70-640 counts directly towards MS silver partner status, wheras the 70-642 doesn't. In my current emplyment, this is a huge deal right now.
They're very similar anyway, so go 70-640. (HAven't passed either one though
Those are difiantely the two you should be considering, though. -
Yahel Member Posts: 42 ■■□□□□□□□□thanks for the response
As I can see at the official site, the 70-640 looks nice to start with.
It covers DNS, and that's a big deal for me, it would be nice to learn more about it, not just what is it name and purpose
Any other advices ?
Edit : I've checked this sticky thread "70-640 resources", there are so many links it isn't so simple like preparation for the ccna exam... u only have 1 book to read and it's enough
Ohh well I guess, getting this book " Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Resource Kit would be a nice book to start with ?CCNA = Passed (01-02-2011)

Michael.J.Palmer Member Posts: 407 ■■■□□□□□□□Both exams cover DNS, the only real difference between is that the 640 covers mainly Active Directory roles and services so you'll need to learn how to install and configure roles, GPO's, etc.
642 like the other guy said focuses mainly on networking stuff, so mainly DHCP, some more DNS, and it wouldn't hurt to know how to set up an IPSec policy via Group Policy for VPN's.-Michael Palmer

za3bour Member Posts: 1,062 ■■■■□□□□□□I would say get the MCITP-Server Administrator cert it's only three exams (640,642 and 646) and it pretty much covers a lot of Windows 2008 and networking in general.
More info here
MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional) | Training Courses for IT Professionals
And there is a discount now if you buy 3 exams together you get 15% and free second shot for each of the exam.
btw getting one exam will not give you MCITP it will give you MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist) -
Yahel Member Posts: 42 ■■□□□□□□□□Thanks all
Mine ccna instructor also suggested me this MCITP - Server Administrator
So I guess it's the best choice
Thanks za3bour for the info, didn't know about the discount
Downloading : Win server 2008 and cbt nuggets for 70-640 exam
Edit: I see this book is probably the best, to start with

BlueEyedSamurai Member Posts: 28 ■□□□□□□□□□Yahel - definitely use the MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (70-640) book as well as the CBT Nuggets videos for this series. Make sure to run through all the Practices in the book.
If you are going to go for an MCITP, mine as well go for the Enterprise Administrator one. Yes it is 5 exams as opposed to 3, but in the end it will be worth it.
