Office 2007 default ext..

Hi

When I open Excel and change what is default "97-2003 document" to "excel document" which is .docx extension it then lets me save as a docx but when I close excel and then re-open it has reverted back to "97-2003 document" as default

Is this done via GPO, the person who would know is off on holiday but my first guess is this is done via GPO, am I right does anyone know the object where I could look
