70-685: For Me?

I am curious if anyone has input as to whether or not learning and passing the 70-685 would be of any benefit for my current career situation.

A little background: About a year ago I suddenly had the opportunity to enter the IT field. It is quiet different than my previous job and doing a lot of by-the-seat-of-my-pants learning.

Most of the clients I work for are small businesses that range anywhere from 20-100 users. Most of the clients have very small networks with a single domain with 2-3 servers running.

I have already taken and passed the 70-680.

Which exam you should do depends on:

1. what you do for your clients, server stuff or OS stuff. If you are into servers, dive into the EA/SA track.
2. what you career aspirations are. You want to be dealing with end users or break/fix servers. If you want to do the users, then the 685 is an option. If servers, do the EA track.

Maybe get yourself an Exchange cert too if you use it at work.

Bah, I new I'd forget something in my brief background description.

Currently, I do a little bit of everything. I'd say in at the end of the day I end up doing mostly desktop support.

In regards to my long-term career aspirations, I'm not too sure yet. So far, it's all very exciting

Mostly I wasn't sure if the term "enterprise" in the name of the 70-685 really meant that all the material would be focused on situations involving 500+ users.

Been there myself. Next week going to take 685. Just because it has much of the same topics as 680. Also, I'm working as HD now so it's logical step for me.

If a lot of your work involves desktop support on Windows 7 client systems then it probably would be worthwhile going for the 685 however if you do a lot of work with GPO's then maybe consider the 686 as it is a bit more in depth in that area.

+1. The desktop support certs are a great place to start if you are in a mixed role and have not done any other certs yet.

What are your career goals for the next 3 - 5 years?
