Potentially handy storage device
The iodd 2501 Portable Virtual ROM is a USB/eSATA HD box that also enumerates as an optical drive. You can select an ISO from the built in display and then that appears on the virtual optical drive. The box doesn't come with a drive and you need to supply your own 2.5" SATA drive but its pretty cheap.
If your computer doesn't mind about the extra HD appearing then this could be quite useful. Store all your installation ISOs on there and just select the appropriate one and plug in and go. No need to burn the images at all. You can use it as a regular HD as well.
The write protect switch is also handy if you're using it with compromised or unknown computers. You shouldn't have any risk of malware or anything else getting written back onto your drive and affecting your files.
I don't actually have one of these enclosures but I might get one to have a play around with. Could be handy for work.

What size/speed HDD do you recommend? No longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives.
