NET+ Question

Hi, I'm new to the site and will be taking the Net+ soon.

I am going to purchase a book today and am thinking about the Exam Cram. Any advice or suggestions?

Also, will I be able to use a calculator during the exam for subnetting?

    I would suggest the All in One book by Mike Meyers. It was a pretty good read overall and covered everything you need to know. As far as subnetting, it's covered in the book a bit. However as far as the actual material it's not gone into very much. You'll need to know your standard CIDR for class a, b and c but that's about it. I don't think you get into VLSM until you start on CCNA or something along those lines.

    Edit to add: Know your ports and protocols. Also know what protocols operate at what layer of the OSI model . Also update us when you pass. Good luck.

    Also know your media (lengths and speeds) knowing the 3 areas cold 1. OSI model/ protocols, 2. Ports, 3. Media will guarantee you a pass. It's a good idea to know the troubleshooting steps and some of the command line tools as they will be on there too.
    No longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives.

    Exam Cram for Net+ was an unbearable read. It was extremely boring, even on technical book standards. Mike Meyers was much better.

    Mike Meyers All-In-One book (not the Passport version, although I did read the Passport version, it was my main reading source hehe). But I heard good things about the A-I-O.

    Free CBT videos from Professor Messer (I only watched several but depending on your level you should watch them all):
    Professor Messer's Free CompTIA Network+ Certification Training Course | Professor Messer - CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Certification Training

    Also used MC MCSE Study guide.

    I heard bad things about using Exam Cram.
    2011 Certification Plans so far:
    [Cisco: CCENT (ICND1)-> CCNA (ICND2)]
    [MS: MCP-> MCDST-> MCTS / MCITP:ESDT7-> MCITP:EDA7]

    Class taking:
    [Cisco NetAcademy - Network Fundamentals (35%)]

    Video currently watching:

    [CBT Nuggets - CCENT w/ Jeremy (50%)]
    [CBT Nuggets - 20-721 (40%)

    Thanks a lot everyone!!

    I have been watching Messer's videos and reading the MC MCSE notes so far but have yet to purchase a book. Per your advice, I will get the Mike Meyers All in One. (Is it updated for the latest exam?)

    Thanks Again and I will keep you posted!

    I used Network+ Review Guide by Bill Ferguson. Surprisingly, I had very few questions on the OSI model.
