Call back month later

skylineskyline Member Posts: 135
I received a phone call out of the blue today. I applied for a job back in the beginning of November and shortly thereafter I was called for a Phone interview (Passed) called back for a interview with Director of IT after the leaving the interview I had that gut feeling that I didn't get the job (didn’t bomb the interview but just had that feeling) and was not surprised when I received no call back.

So today I received a call from HR manager asking me if I was still interested in this said position I said yes! and I have a Conference Call tomorrow morning with the Director again to re-acquainted. Not sure what happened for the long delay nor do I really care.

My only issue is that when I was asked about the salary initially I forgot what I said (pretty sure it was 60k-70k) The only job listings I was able to dig up with a listed salary was in that 60-70k range although it was a staffing agency that was posting the job ad and not the originally company like the one I had applied to.

Is there a way to save face in case this question is brought up tomorrow? I don’t want to undercut MYSELF... lol. Also when you guys apply for jobs and get to the salary stage do you have a mental list of MUST HAVE that they must meet besides the salary? Example: Underground Paid Parking / Telecommuting, On Call Compensataion.

It's because HR people are too busy doing nothing to call you back. Must have rained out their golf game today.

There could be a possibility that the person they did hire didn't work out and you were their second choice.

Yeah or the money that would be paid to the new hire did not get released. I had that response from a HR dude for a job that I applied a few years ago.

I really do admire your distaste for human resource people. icon_lol.gif

To the OP:If you gave them a number, then stick to it. If they counter lower and you don't have any other job offers you're looking at, or it's a raise from your current position I wouldn't balk at it.

i think his point was that he didn't remember what he told them a month ago, so now he's confused as to what to say if he gets asked again...

i would just say, "didn't we discuss this last time?" or something to that effect

+1 there's a big chance that this happened, if this is the case, I would investigate the company/department etc. but if you don't have a job then you might want to just ignore this facts.

Just had the call, turns out the guy they hired balked after a week (apparently was waiting for another job to come thru). Went on to be told I was their 2nd choice. Chatted for maybe 15mins quickly refreshed and left it at that. I should hear back by the EOW so wait and see.
