Think I can pass Security+ by the 20th?

I just passed my Network+ with a 878.

I sorta procrastinated and now I am running out of time!

All of the schools (vue testing centers) around here are closed during Christmas time, so that latest I can take the test is the 20th.

If I want to take it later, I have to drive two hours.

I just downloaded (kindle) Darill Gibsons Comptia Security + book due to what you guys have been saying about it.

Do you think it is possible to study for and pass the Security+ test in two weeks?

Is there any really good CBT (video) training series on Security+? I rather watch a video than read (bad reader).

I wish my kindle could text-to-speech for me :/

Thank you,
Kevin Bryant

It is doable. Trust me, you want to read Darril's book as it has all they keypoints summarized. I glanced at a few videos and got bored after 10 minutes. Darril's book kept me engaged. I read the book entirely over the Thanksgiving weekend. Then I went over the cryptography chapter a second. Finally, I flipped through the chapters making notes of my weak areas. Worked like a charm.

I am in the same boat gui. Got A+ in October, and Net+ last wednesday. Hopefully I can get through some material and schedule it quickly.

I'd say we should both have good chances and should be able to pull it off. GL. icon_cheers.gif

You can easily pass by then. Read Darril's book and then go take it.

So it looks like the Kindle doesn't support text to speech for PC or Android.

    WTF

You don't need text to speech. It's an easy read (well I read 8 out of 10 chapters so far). I read more than half the book using Kindle (for PC (netbook & work)/Android/Itouch).

There's some overlap with A+ / N+ and that's all fresh in your mind right now. Especially with the high scores you've been getting it will be very doable for you in 2 weeks. icon_thumright.gif

I could've done it in two weeks too but im taking my time, plus I have a couple other things to worry about. I will take it last week of December.

You just passed Net+ with a great score, so Darril's book will get you Sec+ well before your deadline. Just set a goal to read 1 chapter per day, additionally, you can probably skip chapter 3 (Networking) having just done Net+ it will be sheer review. I skipped it and just took the questions and got 90ish% without even looking at any of the chapter's material.

It took me 1 month to get sec+ with Darril's book, however I had a death in the family and stopped studying completely after 1 week, for over 2 weeks. Picked it back up and was certified in roughly a week. So yes, 2 weeks is doable, if I can do it broken up, with that book, should be cake all at once.

One tip I can give, how I did it, was to take all the "Remember" boxes, and write them out on notepaper, then go back and read them through at a later time, as Darril explains in the intro, this exposes you to the material a minimum of 3 times. Works. The book is spot on.

You can't miss, just schedule the test for the day after you finish the book. ( the final exam, not just chap 10, you may choose to give yourself a day between finishing chapter 10, taking its review questions and taking the final exam, I did it that way because I wanted to see what I truly retained).

I received my copy of the book on the 13th of Nov. and sat for the test on the 29th. Planned on doing it on the 26th, but my local center was closed that day so yes it can be done in 2 weeks. With your Net+ score you should have absolutely no problems with it as long as you absorb the Gibson book.
