What happens if i take 1 part of the exam before december 31, 2010 and the next after

what will happen if i take 220-701 before december 31, 2010 and than after january 1 2011 i decide to take the 220-702 does that means my certificate will still expire every 3 years ? or only 220-702 i will have to take every 3 years

I think since you need both to actually become certified you'd be forced into the CE program version of the A+; you would still only have to complete 702. I don't work for CompTIA so don't quote me on this one

you probably would have to take both over, but remember if you pass one there is a 12 month wait period nut i would cal them to ask, oh you might get a voice mail too.

Actually you would be in the new program. But remember that in the new CE program you only need to take the most senior of the 3 (A+, Net+, Sec+) to renew the others (Sec+ being the most senior of the 3).
So if you do get sandwiched by the year end you don't necessarily have to take the A+ in 3 years but could just take Net+ in 3 years and then Sec+ 3 years later and your A+ would be current still. Or just take all 3 after Jan 1 and retake Sec+ every 3 years to stay current on all 3.
I'm retaking my A+ sometime after the next version of it goes live just so I can stay current on the technologies covered as I took mine in Dec 2008. They're not offering bridge exams for any of these tests after this year.
