What is everyone feelings on these exams? I did not know they existed until my professor said he had some free codes. Not that I really need them, I took the networking one last night since it was free. Seems like an easy copy cat of the Comptia Network+.

JBrown Member Posts: 308Our Microsoft Rep, had no idea what MTA is when we asked him about it. I am guessing it still alive here and there or its not that popular with MS itself and they stopped really pushing it to schools.

I don't see much interest in them though. No longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives. -

Maybe. I know of High School students with MCP certs so I just don't see that happening either. I think MS is trying to fill a niche that is already filled by CompTIA. -

The MTA exams are very new so it's no wonder that not many people have heard of them. IMO, it's not so much a copy cat, but Microsoft's own version (Server Fundamental's = A+, Network Fundamental's = Network+, Security Fundamental's = Security+) geared up towards MS's own technology (rather than Comptia being vendor neutral).
We recently had the opportunity to delivery the MTA exams out and found them to give good basic grounding - especially for those that have never sat a MS exam before and/or those that wanted to get into IT.
Out of the 4 people in my department who sat the exams: Server, Network & Security fundamentals - 2 people passed 3 exams without studying (myself and the senior tech, granted we already have higher level MS certs). The next two had approx 1 week to study for and sit the exams: 1 person failed 1 exam (the Network one) but re-sat and passed the second time around (passed the other two with no problems) and 1 person failed 3 exams (2 x Network and 1 x security), however passed the server one first time around and the security one on the re-sit.
