question about a connection found in netstat

exampasserexampasser Member Posts: 718 ■■■□□□□□□□
When I was viewing my connections with netstat I found this:

192.168.0.196:49180(source, my computer's private ip) a72-246-30-40:http (destination)

Any guesses on what it is?

Without knowing the destination it is anyone's guess. Is a web browser open? If you using the "-n" switch it will just show IPs instead of truncated hostnames, which is more useful.

That is most likely an Akamai server. They are a major internet content delivery provider around the world.

It was a deploy.akamaitechnologies.com, I should have posted what it resolved to in my OP. I guess I'm just having a small case of being paranoid lol, it did go away after a reboot. It just struck me odd as I didn't just have any web browsers open.

A lot of stuff uses Akamai and other CDN providers, like software updates. If you use the "-o" switch for netstat, you will see the associated process ID, which you can then check in Task Manager.
