HELP - no experience or degree. Only an A+ cert.

What are some suggestions you would have for breaking into the IT field without any experience or computer related degrees? I have a bachelor of Arts (in music) and have recently obtained my CompTIA A+ certification. Most if not all entry level jobs require 2-3 yrs. experience, even help desk positions.

Does anybody out there have any insight on my situation & what direction I can go. I'm in a dead-end coffee shop job right now and want to see where this IT thing can go, but where to start??

Thanks in advance,
Rob

You know, 2 - 3 years doesn't sound like entry level.

Geek Squad wouldnt be a bad choice as suggested. Or any kind of computer store for that matter. You can highlight your customer service skills and all that good stuff. Just to get your foot in the door, you can start with a staffing agency like I did. It will get you some exposure and might land you your first full-time job. Don't rely to heavily on them because they take a slice of your pay and it will upset you to learn the actual amount you could have made. But just to get a feeling for the field and potentially make some contacts, its not a bad place to start.

Still apply, the A+ will get you in eventually. You could also volunteer your skills to a nonprofit or get on as a substitute tech for some of the area school districts.

On a side note...What was you music degree in? Funny story... I was accepted to Rutgers (Mason Gross) and was going to go into music education. Instead I joined the Army as a sax player which got me started in IT.
