mikej412 Member Posts: 10,086 ■■■■■■■■■■I paid $149 for a 3550-48 EMI a couple of months ago (for my Utility/Server room). The 3550-24 port versions were going for $125. But that was a vendor clearing out some of their upgrade trade-ins, rather than one of the regular used Cisco vendors.
The 16-20 listings only lasted about 3 days before they were snapped up (with the last group of 3550-24s probably going to someone who was just going to resell them at $200 each).
But that is a reasonable price from a good vendor.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -

Cisco Catalyst WS-C3550-24PWR-SMI Switch w/ Inline Powe - eBay (item 170586374856 end time Jan-06-11 17:06:07 PST)
Inline power means the switch can do PoE
Comes in handy if you ever need to power up Cisco phones or access points
Just a thought
Good luck with your lab

Not sure how that is going to affect the guest level access to LAN Switch and Access Point IOS files. For the CCNP (and CCIE) you want the 3550 with EMI (or IPServices) IOS.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -
Netwurk Member Posts: 1,155 ■■■■■□□□□□When I visited Cisco last month they were giving out IOS images to all the techs on USB thumb drives
Unofficially of course since corporate users need smartnet or whatever they call it these days
yawn
Have fun kids -

That might be something I pick up for my lab. We have a few 3560s at work. Bad ass pieces of kit for the price.
Too bad these are for my jobs lab....Just remember that Cisco is supposed to start verifying Smartnet contracts against downloads "in January."

We have smartnet but thanks for the tip. That is very important and I didn't know about that. -

3560's rock We have them (and newer models) at work.
I buy all my home gear on ebay, Horizon, and Cables & Kits. At work, we recycle better gear than I have but there's not much I can do about that.
My boss does let us have cool things like GBICs and cables that they are tossing - even those I need to test with my BNC Plus tester as I am not going to let faulty accessories foul up my hard earned lab.
Funny thing about my BNC tester, I have never used it to test a BNC cable.

I just picked up an emi-pwr for $202 shipping included. I was looking at those from candela but they are originally smi's with emi flash. Not that it really makes a difference (or does it) Im just ocd like that. -

They don't have any gig interfaces though. -

So basically you shove that thing into the slot for the GBICs? -
QHalo Member Posts: 1,488Better deal and comes with rack mount brackets. Candela never includes rack mounts. Still a good company though. I've bought from them a few times. The 1841 I got from them looked brand new and had 256MB instead of 128MB of RAM too.

Yup. I bought 6 2950's for our lab, all of them have gbic slots. They are hot swappable/hot installable too. Keep in mind it only does 1000, not 10/100/1000.
