Distance Vector V Link State Protocols

Am I right in saying that Link state protocols will cause less network traffic as they flood only part of the routing table, rather than the whole table like Distance Vector. Which part of the routing table to Link State Prots advertise?? Im trying to gauge which group are suitable for which network situation

Any other info on the differences are welcome
