Upgrading ESXi from 4.0 to 4.1?

I've been using ESXi for a year now. The only thing I used it for was for creating VM's and getting some practice using vSphere. The main purpose of upgrading is I would like to use a Linux VM with some USB wireless adapter and maybe some Jumbo Frames support.

The problem I'm having is I can't SSH into the ESXi machine. I get a network error: connection refused. How do I turn-on SSH or Telnet within vSphere?
