Microsoft recently announced plans to retire 26 certification exams on June 30, 2011, including exams 70-271 and 70-272, which are required for the Microsoft Certified Desktop Technician (MCDST) credential. The rest of the exams being retired are mostly related to SQL Server 2005, BizTalk Server 2006, or Visual Studio 2005. Fo the full list, visit Microsoft's website.

Other than a few elective exams here and there, as we've seen already, I'd imagine the core (70-290, 70-291, 70-293 & 70-294) along with the design exams won't be retired until whatever server version is next after 2008 and the certification system for that product is out.

If you're going to take any of the MCSE exams I would plan to do it by the end of 2011.
