Allow external contact to send to Query Based Distro Group?

Hiya,

on a Exchange 2003 server we have a Query based distro group where only the management is allowed to send to .. Now we'd like to allow someone external to send to this list .. I have created a contact with an external email address and allowed it but he still isn't allowed to send to this group still...

Is this even possible ?!?

First thing that pops to my mind is make sure under message restrictions to uncheck from authenticated users only.

Cheers, never was ticked though, only a list (Only from) is specified.

Glad I got you set in the right direction then! The authenticated users is always where I go first when I'm told that some user or group can't receive external mail.

I inherited an exchange system full mailboxes that could only receive mail from addresses in our global address list (which was full of manually entered external contacts). We would put the contacts into a group and add that group to the GAL. Try creating a group, give that group permission to send to the DL, and add the contact to the group.

Otherwise, I'm not sure this is possible without creating an internal account for the external client. The sending restriction is a type of security right and I do not believe Exchange can grant that right to a contact.
