201 and 301

So I have Darril's book on 201 and plan to take the test this year. Apparently,
301 comes out in May. Will I be forced to take 301 test when it comes out? I plan to take 201 around October.

I have submitted this question to Comptia and am awaiting there reply also.

Nope, you don't have to take 301.

If you pass 201, you will be certified for 3 years. 301 is the updated version though so depending on your employer (if that is what you are going for), you may have to take it anyways.

Thanks. I guess my question is how long after 301 comes out will CompTia offer the 201 test?

At least 6 months, you will have no trouble.
