MCSA 2000, 2003, or 2000/2003

I’m contemplating whether I should go for the MCSA 2000 or MCSA 2003. I was thinking maybe I should pursue the MCSA 2000 track and then upgrade to 2003. I’m figuring it could be listed as MCSA 2000/2003, which shows you have “knowledge” of both server products. Is this overkill?

I don't think this is overkill, this is the way I’m planning to follow my self, since this way you have them both with only 1 additional exam (for mcsa) or 2 for mcse, Plus I think that when a company is looking to move from W2k to 2003 and they can choose between some one with the both or with only 1, the decision will be made quickly,
But his is only my 2 cents.

    Kind regards

    I'm too lazy.

I'm just going for my MCSA because it seems to be a cert that is looked for a lot. I'll get by with the 2003 path. icon_wink.gif

I'm going with the MCSA 2000 track as well and then taking the upgrade exam to 2003. I think it will look more valuable knowing both operating systems. That's just my idea and planned out certification path. Also my environment still consists of all windows 2000 pcs.

Considering it's only 1 exam extra (70-292) I think it's a good idea to go for the 2000/2003 if you already started on the 2000 track, for the same reason eastp mentioned. A lot of companies will prefer 2000/2003, even if you aren't directly involved in the upgrade process there will be a lot of mixed environments to manage. On the other hand, the upgrade exam is meant for an MCSA on 2000, particularly for those with experience...

I'm going for 2000, then in the future maybe I'll upgrade to 2k3. It depends on what the market is demanding.

I think the market right now wants people to be MCSAs whether it be 2000 or 2003. It would be nicer to be MCSE but for me that's far down the road.

I'm also going down the MCSA 2000 track, as I have had a lot more experience with Win2K, and also because most companies still use Win2K as their standard OS.

I will definitely be doing the 70-292 Win2K3 upgrade exam later on down the track though.

Good luck with whatever you decide! icon_wink.gif

Thanks for the input. After passing the 70-270, I thought I’d pursue Linux+, Security+, or CWNA before studying for the 70-215(although I ordered 70-215 materials). With the “second shot” deal, I think I’ll stick with the MCSA 2000/2003 track.
