Switch - Day 2 (ish)

So I got home from work yesterday. And started in on my switch studies, I slept 6 hours had a few breaks. But I can say I am on hour 20, at least! So I am gonna call that day two.

I officially just finished every lab in CCNP Switch Lab manual, except the Wireless one. I don't have access to a wireless access point so I am not certain how I am going to handle this.

Over all I have to say I think ip sla was the coolest thing I played with. I was wondering if anyone had used this in production? Care to share a story?

On top of finishing every lab, I have worked through every lab from the video mentor series. Actually I skipped working through GLBP. Seemed kinda pointless to do it over again.

Finally, I am about half way through the Foundations guide. I can honestly say I have now done everything in this book in real life with a few exceptions.

Tomorrow is another day, I am hoping to see if I can beg/borrow/steal a WLAN controller sometime next week. Otherwise I'll just poke around in a client's network remotely after hours.

It's time for the hard part now, time to memorize every chart and bullet list. I have a thousands of blank flashcards ready to go! Still shooting for end of March on this one. We'll see how it goes.

Off to go watch some TV with the wife and enjoy a beer. More to come tomorrow!

Am I reading this right? You finished every lab in the manual, watched all the mentor series, and read half the foundation book in 2 days?

All I can say is WOW bowing.gif

Kinda, yeah. I guess if you put it that way, YEP!

I did a nice 10 hours day a couple weeks ago so I made some progress there. And my 20 hours from yesterday and the day before. So making great progress.

Gonna spend today just making up my own labs. Just "trying" things.

Good job Dan, I got stucked with the lab manual I had to order 10 additional crossover cable, this would be the last resource, what flash card are you using? the more resource the better :)

Flashcards, I am making my own as I work. I often add error messaging and show output. That sort of thing.

I also bought an iphone app.

I don't get how people study from a book for 10+ hours in a day. I cannot get that much info to stick that way and I consider myself pretty good when it comes to book learning.
After 2-3hours I find a huge decrease in the amount of information I am actually absorbing.

I can lab 6 hours, do flashcards, that sort of stuff fine, but just reading from a book in order to process it?

There are no processes or such at work I am always learning and figuring things out. I normally work 8-10 hours days, so it's not a huge thing. I don't know, if I am in the zone. I don't notice 6..7..8... hours pass. It's just, "How cool was that?" ... "oh that is why X" .... "oh sh?t it's broken again" ... "oh wow, dinner time!"

I have certain drive right now. I just got a promotion and if I leaverage it right it could be very beneficial to get my wife and I out of this ghetto area we live in.

    So my motivation is strong.
