Job Description

Key Purpose of the Role:
The primary purpose of this role is to assist in maintaining the health and welfare of the media network with a focus on ethernet services and trunks.


Principal Responsibilities:

• Defining and refining procedures for network element acceptance, integration and operation into the normal system
• Documenting clearly and effectively information in the Trouble Ticket system and SharePoint for communication to other staff, to open tickets and follow up on escalated problems.
• Defining troubleshooting processes and procedures for media based ethernet and IP services and trunks.
• Project management of large operations projects (upgrades, router and trunk migrations, etc)
• Monitoring, troubleshooting & correcting media service and network problems
• Diagnosing troubles identified by network monitoring and working to resolve issues
• Working with various third parties (Engineers, Provisioners, Infrastructure Vendors, Customers, and Developers) to narrow down problems and achieve resolution.
• Carrier and vendor management of operations issues, bugs, etc.
• Assist in training of operators for ethernet and IP based services.

Person Specification:

Essential Skills & Experience (key competencies)

• Experience
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent network operations experience.
• 4-5+ years of experience with implementation and support of large, complex, IP and ethernet based media networks or equivalent experience.
• Intimate knowledge of TCP/IP internetworking/Carrier ethernet/WAN data and transport communications.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and a demonstrated history of high-level achievement in cross-functional organizations.
• 2-3 years experience with ethernet and IP service delivery and troubleshooting.
• 2-3 years experience with IP multicasting.

Desired Skills & Experience

• *nix OS experience
• Experience with hierarchical video distribution, network based caching methodologies, and CDN.
• Experience with Cisco, Ciena, Net Insight, Sycamore, H3C.
• Local Area Network design
• Wide Area Network design
• Experience with NMS management system modeling and operation

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Strong communications and PC skills.
