CV Question

Hi All,

Just passed my 70-291 today and updating my CV, my questions is; currently on my C.V I have listed the exams that I have done, under that I say what the material covered so for example:

Certified Network+ Technician

The course comprehensively covers PC networking technology, I learned the functions of network components and the skills needed to install, configure, and troubleshoot networking hardware peripherals and protocols. The course enabled me to expand and develop my expertise in the below following areas:

• Networking Protocols, Wireless Technology, Troubleshooting Issues
• LAN/WAN Technologies, Network Configuration, Network Topologies

I would also have 290, what it covers 291 what that covers, each have a section

I was thinking of just changing it and having:

Qualifications

Comptia A+ - PC Technician
Comptia Network+ - Network Technician
Cisco CCNA – Cisco Network Associate
Microsoft MCSA – Microsoft Certified Administrator
MCTS – Technology Specialist Windows 7
ITIL v3 – Service Delivery

Can't really say how a CV should be laid out. However I would think a hiring manager would know what each cert covers in general. I would go with your second option of:

    Qualifications

    Comptia A+ - PC Technician
    Comptia Network+ - Network Technician
Cisco CCNA – Cisco Network Associate
Microsoft MCSA – Microsoft Certified Administrator
MCTS – Technology Specialist Windows 7
    ITIL v3 – Service Delivery

That just looks nicer to me.
    WGU BS:IT Completed June 30th 2012.
    WGU MS:ISA Completed October 30th 2013.

Thanks that's what I was thinking, when I started out I wanted to bulk up CV but I think now I want to cut it down a bit.

I'd go with the format Hypntik suggested, but I'd suggest re-arranging the certs. Higher level certs must go first, the MCSA at the top followed by the MCTS, CCNA, ITIL and the compTIA's. Highlighting your accomplishments is what a resume is about.

I agree with the above comments. I'd say depending on what job you're interviewing for tweak the list while still keeping the hierachy of highest cert to lowest. For example, if you're applying for a Cisco job, put your CCNA first. It's a small tweak but first impressions mean everything :)

I have to agree with the replies. When I am reviewing resumes for the network engineers that I am going to hire I want it short and sweet. Now this is just me but I also hate the standard start to a cv " A highly motivated and driven ........." . So here is my advice:
    Use a easily read font.
Keep it to the point I do not have time to read fluff and believe me I can tell fluff.
I have to agree with the others put the higher level certs first and adjust them based on the job you are going for.

    GOOD LUCK
