I am startin my config on a router and have a quick question maybe you can help me with. you may think is daft question and not that important but Its really bugging me.
See below:
Cisco877(config-line)#password ?
0 Specifies an UNENCRYPTED password will follow
7 Specifies a HIDDEN password will follow
LINE The UNENCRYPTED (cleartext) line password
Whats the difference between me typing:
password 0 cisco
and
password cisco

option 7 is when your inputting the encrypted format of the password into the config.. When you've enabled password-encryption, and you want to add the encrypted version of the password instead of the clear text version.
Same goes for MD5 hashing. It's used for administrative discretion.
