Folks:
Which model of switches store the vlan config in both the vlan.dat and runing-config file? I think the new switches only store the data in flash:vlan.dat; however, I seem to remember reading somewhere that older switches store it in both places: the vlan.dat and running-config file.
thanks.

APA Member Posts: 959Switches running VTP transparent mode will store the VLAN configuration in the running config.
Switches running VTP mode server or client will store the VLAN configuration in vlan.dat
Client only holds it in running memory though.... the minute the switch is rebooted... it will lose the vlan.dat configuration... until it syncs up with a VTP server again.
VTP server stores the VLAN configuration in NVRAM... so across reboots the vlan configuration remains.
Perhaps switches that didn't utilise VTP stored the config in running memory and vlan.dat.... but I don't remember coming across that.....
