I know that the ICND uses the 2950 switch, but could I use a 1900 switch to practice for the exam? Do the commands differ greatly where it wouldn't be worth getting the 1900 switch? After buying all the books and two routers, I am not sure that I can afford getting a switch for $500!! Thanks for all your help.

shadown7 Member Posts: 529The Webmaster and others around here including myself suggest a 1900 if you can't get a 2950. There is still alot you can do with that switch and the hands-on will be worth it. I have a 1924 and I'm doing fine with the labs.
If you CAN afford the 2950 then get that but if not the 1900's will do you some good. -
JASON123 Member Posts: 57 ■■□□□□□□□□Ok, forgive me for my ignorance, but how would any 2900 series switch work such as a 2924 switch? Is that close enough? Once again, thanks for all your help.

Drakonblayde Member Posts: 542For the lowerend 2900's, make sure you're bidding on the right switch (small greenish box) You want a 2950 series, or a 2900XL. The regular 2900's are CatOS based, and won't do you a lick of good in studying for the CCNA= Marcus Drakonblayde
