Trouble coping IOS--READ ONLY??

shadown7shadown7 Member Posts: 529
Hi all,

When I tried to copy my IOS to my TFTP server it is giving me an error message and saying something that the IOS is Read Only. I wish I copied the error message to post but I didn't. I will try to get it for you guys when I get home. I just trying to get a copy of my IOS on cd just in case something goes wrong.

Thanks,

Keith

    No problem :D

This is what I get when I do a sh flash

    File Length Name/status
    1 16505800 c2500-jk8os-1.122-1d.bin
    [16505800 bytes used, 271352 available, 16777216 total]
16384 bytes of processor board System flash (Read ONLY)

and this is the error I get when I try to send the IOS to my TFTP server.

%Error opening flash:c2500-jk8os-1.122-1d.bin (No such file or directory)

I've used my tftp server to send configs and I've had no problem. I don't know why I'm having trouble sending the IOS.

Let me see if I have this right, you're able to tftp to a router from your tftp server, but can't tftp from your router to your tftp server? Prior to attempting the tftp, were you able to ping your tftp server from your router?
  • shadown7shadown7 Member Posts: 529
I can TFTP the configs files with no problem to and from the router. I can ping the router and the TFTP server with no problem. I've already sent the config file to and from the TFTP server with no problem.

This is the error message I'm getting when I try to copy the IOS to the TFTP server.

%Error opening flash:c2500-jk8os-1.122-1d.bin (No such file or directory)

%Error opening flash:c2500-jk8os-1.122-1d.bin (No such file or directory)

No, I'm trying to copy the IOS to the TFTP server so I can put it on CD for a backup.

I'm using the copy flash tftp command.

    thanks

I think he means in the filename. The error is showing that the file you are trying to copy doesn't exist, which means you are mistyping it, or have the extension wrong....or something.

I found the problem. You did type the wrong file name.

The file name should be c2500-jk8os-l.122-1d.bin. Not c2500-jk8os-1.122-1d.bin. You inadvertently typed in a number "1" where there should have been a lower case "L."

you will also get these messages if you do not have write permissions to the folder / directory on the tftp server.
