Hey guys, I'm trying to install CME 8.5: Download Software - Cisco Systems
I'm looking through the zip file and I can't find the actual CME file anywhere...all I see is phone load files and misc stuff. Didn't the old versions always have a "cme-full-x.x.x.x.tar" or something?
Heres a link to the contents of the zip

What stupid mistake am I making?

First off, not a stupid mistake!
CME is installed into the IOS version you downloaded, not as an external package from cisco. What you have there are packages for firmware/MoH/GUI files to work WITH CME, but is not required for basic functionality.
Unless that changed in recent versions.
Assuming you have telephony-service running, a show telephony-service command will show you the version of CME you have on your IOS. CLI all the way.
After an install / complete setup the ephone admin page is sometimes nice to show the person on site who may make basic phone changes.CCNP:Collaboration, CCNP:R&S, CCNA:S, CCNA:V, CCNA, CCENT -

I have never used the GUI for actual configuration, but as pitviper said it might be nice for end users. Cisco has a nack for not giving a crap about GUI's, with the exception of CUCM and Unity. So it is pretty much a bland UI.
