Cisco 2924 No Shutdown Problem

I'm a Cisco noob so this may be a dumb question so bear with me. I am fumbling my way blindly through configuring my first lab setup and am using static routing. I got two routers connected and when trying to hook one up to a 2924 switch I couldn't get a link. So I consoled in to the switch and all the ports are showing as down. When I use the command no shutdown on any of the interfaces in returns the message "changed state to up" and then immediately says "changed state to down." I can't seem to find any info on why this is happening. Any one have any ideas?
