There has been CCENT (ICND1) and CCNA (ICND2) exams for quite some time now, it is not new. Personally I believe the two exam route is the better choice if you are not directly working with cisco equipment, as it gives you better foundations.
And yes, if you take ICND1, you only have to take ICND2 to get the CCNA. Each exam is exactly half of the requirements of the composite exam.Currently PursuingWGU (BS in IT Network Administration) - 52%| CCIE:Voice Written - 0% (0/200 Hours)mikej412 wrote:Cisco Networking isn't just a job, it's a Lifestyle. -

If your current CCNA has not expired you might only need to take the ICND2

There is no need to really update anything. You are either a CCNA or you are not a CCNA.
There is a two test route to the CCNA, but there is also a one test route. It's your choice. If your CCNA has expired, you need to take either of these routes to renew. If it has not expired, you can pursue any of the options on the page that Priston linked in order to recertify before it expires.
As far as if the CCENT is worth it, I really can't say that it is. Its nice to have something after you pass the ICND1 exam, but I've never seen a single job posting that listed the CCENT. -

The CCENT might be a useful buzzword to have on your resume if you're willing to take a low level job that might actually list it as a requirement (or as one of the preferred certifications).
A while back we added CCENT to the certifications we'll scan resumes for when looking to fill a low level rack 'n stack position. But even an A+ or Network+ would get your resume a look.
If you did a good job studying the CCNA the first time around -- and hopefully touched a few Cisco devices since then -- you may be able to go with Todd Lammle's CCNA: Cisco Certified Network Associate Study Guide: Exam 640-802, 6th Edition. It's a fun read, and if you don't mind risking $250 on the single CCNA exam, it may be all you need.
If you can't recognize a lot of the topics on the CCNA exam blueprint, you may want to consider reading The Wendell Odom Cisco Press CCNA Official Exam Certification Library (CCNA Exam 640-802), 3rd Edition and possibly doing the 2 exam option. If your exam taking skills are rusty you're also only risking 1/2 the money per exam.
Either way grab a copy of the exam blueprint(s) and check off the topics as you think you've covered them. If your hands on configuration skills are rusty you'll want to get some access to hardware or a simulator to knock the rust off.
You had what it takes to earn the CCNA the first time, so you should be able to do it again this time.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set!
