Hello Everyone,

I just joined the forum today, so I wanted to make a breif introduction. I wasn't sure which forum to post in, so I came to this one since I have some qualifications for this forum :). I recently finished up my AAS in Networking, but I have had my first IT job for 3 years (part time) while I was in school. I am currently back in school to work on my bachelors degree and hopefully make some career advancements also. I have my A+ certification and I am currently studying for the Security+ exam. After that is completed I hope to start on my Windows 7 and CCNA studies. I don't know how many females are on the board, but I hope I will recieve a warm welcome :).

We need more women in IT. There is no reason for this to be a male dominated profession.

Welcome! I'm a newbie too. I'm also female. After my last child left for college, I decided to attend college and obtain a Network Specialist degree. At the college I attend, most of the students in the computer science classes are male. Is the IT field a male dominant field? I really enjoy my classes and I enjoy the computer science field.

    Hi Lag4316,

It's always good to see a female post on the board. I won't be the first to say IT is male dominated by choice, but women in the field are on the rise. Enjoy your studies and make the best of your degree when you recieve it. Start looking into student jobs at your school early on, so when you graduate you will have some experience under your belt that would make the job hunt a little bit easier.

Women IT pros are on the rise and the ones I have worked with are fantastic. It is male dominated mainly because a lot of men in IT grew up dorking around with computers when they were teenagers. The percentage of women doing that is WAY low. I am one of the few in the field who started learning about computers at 19, so I was way behind the curve. I often rib my coworkers by telling them the first OS I ever worked on was Windows 2000!

Savannah is a really nice area :D I work up in Augusta, but have the pleasure of passing through Savannah on my way to my National Guard unit in Brunswick every month.
