If i have a switch running 5 nodes does that mean i have 5 separate collision domains?

Yes, assuming the network consists of only the switch you will have;
5 collision domains
1 Broadcast domain

Thanks for your help, i knew it but somebody questioned it earlier and i wasn't 100%.

each port on a switch is its own collison domain

Wouldn't it be six, adding one for the interface from switch to switch or switch to router? Unless it's a standalone switch I mean?

Yeah if there was a connection to a router then 6, but just stand alone here.

Then agreed, 5 it is. But for the purposes of the test, be ready for trickery.
