New Job

So I was offered a contact to hire job as a System Admin. The title is a little misleading because it does alot of desktop support things but also works with L3 on server level projects. It is a major company and it requires me to relocate to Orlando from Tampa. I welcome the move because I am tire of living in Tampa after 20 years. Its a step in the right direction. It was a jump in pay 10k more (to 52k) and then I can try to get some more when it goes perm as a salary job.
They pull from the L2 guys to fill any openings in for the L3 jobs. L3 works with the servers ect. I'm hoping to get in touch with the networking team which is headed by another manager.
Go figure now I have people emailing all the time for jobs.

Congrats on the offer! I would be careful though as it is contract to hire. Make sure you have something saved up in the background incase this doesn't turn into a permanent position (no matter how small the chance of it happening in the "bad" sense). -

With Florida being a right to work state, it does not really matter anyways.Currently reading: Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action

tbgree00 Member Posts: 553 ■■■■□□□□□□I was in a contract to hire situation and it messed with my head a little. I always felt disposable and they kept pushing back the hire time. It went from a one month waiting period to two months, to six - eight months. When I looked at the other temps at different locations one had been temp for a year and the other for nine months. All the time my team lead lorded it over my head that I wasn't there full time and I had to "keep proving myself" if I wanted to be considered for the job. Overall it made me panic when I had a "learning experience" or when my teksystems rep called.
That said if the people you work with are cool and you like the work contract to hire can be good. Do you get benefits from the agency/a spouse? That was another problem, Tek's insurance is pretty bad.I finally started that blog - www.thomgreene.com -

I know the first week can be slow because they are feeling "the new guy" out or are just to busy to deal with them. I finally got tired of waiting for tickets to come in and went and asked my managers and the L3 guys if they needed help. I found alittle bit of work and then I was back to researching other things I think will help out in the future.
Today I asked my boss if he had any work today and he responded I'm very impressed that you asked that and I think you will work out well here. I was glad to hear that. Also, started speaking with the Network Admin and he was impressed with my all around experiance with network and systems as well as having a Masters in Business. First day my boss was jokingly telling me to stay away from the network guys because they do not fall under his rule and does not want them to steal me away.
Hopefully being persistent will pay off.Currently reading: Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action -

Its a different place. I live by the Loop and near Disney. I typically don't stray away from my area to much. Since I never did the theme parks, I've been doing them. Besides that and trying to study its been fine. Everything I need is in shopping plaza near me.Currently reading: Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action
