The problem that I am having is that the switch does not recognize commands such as: vlan database, switchport port-security mac-address sticky, and other commands that I am studying for the CCNA. I was told to get either a 2950 switch or a 2900XL version in order to be able to work with the switch for the CCNA. Do I need to upgrade the ios or will I not be able to really use this switch to study for the CCNA? Thank you for all your help.

It doesn't look like you are running an enterprise IOS. For the "vlan database" command you shouldn't use it in config mode, instead use it in priviledged exec mode.

Try to get the following IOS installed.

    c2900xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC5.bin

Thanks tunerX installing that IOS worked perfectly. I also learned something new!!! How to install an IOS when you deleted the first one because there wasn't enough room for the second one. Is it strange that I have enjoyed all this?!
