we need CPE's right away or after 3 years ????

Huh? you need a minimal number of CPE's each year you have the cert. Also, you have a total number of CPE's to get within the 3 years.

I saw all of this in the material before I signed up, let me see if I can locate a link for you...

    EDIT: Here's the link:

Yeah. I had to convince myself I could get the CPE's, 'cause getting the cert/annual maintenance is a bit pricey, for those of us who go "self-funded".

ISC2 makes it somewhat easy to earn more than enough CPEs, without spending a dime. Lots of free (and archived) webinars and such.

Yeah, I kind of meant that testing for and/or maintaining the cert isn't cheap by any means, dollar wise, LOL. Didn't want to waste my money, so to speak. I didn't want to get it, if I didn't plan on keeping it, is all.

    OK, a little more:

    CISSP Journey:
    Exam Taken: March 26, 2011 @ 9 AM (Saturday)
Time to take Test: 3.5 hours
    Results Received: April 11, 2011 @ 3:29 PM (Monday)
    Pass or Fail: Passed
Endorsement Sent in: April 13, 2011 @ 5 PM (Wednesday)
Endorsement Docs Received: April 20, 2011 @ 9:48 AM (Wednesday)
Endorsement Audit Notice: May 17, 2011 @ 9:15 AM (Tuesday)
    Final Result Received: Pending

Wow! They took almost a month to decide to audit my Endorsement paperwork. According to the e-mail this is simply a random audit.

Fortunately, I have legitimate, verifiable experience (6 years of DoD DITSCAP/DIACAP work with hands-on DISA STIG testing with GOTS systems). I wonder how long this additional audit takes? Any thoughts out there?

No idea. Don't have a clear idea of how many people they have to audit, and how many staff they have devoted to the task :D

Congratulations to both of you! I became an (!SC)2 Associate back in '09. Front load your CPE's, saves lots of stress, when you don't have time to spare. Fortunately, my MS IA studies may be applied to my CPE's I believe. I use "Security Now!" podcasts on my daily 25 minute commute and the ISC2 magazines/quizs to make up the difference. Your C|EH preparations can probably apply as well. I am planning to pursue my C|EH this June and start my M.S. IA at WGU this fall.

See you around the TE forums.

I heard that the (ISC)2 people called my past supervisor (I had exactly five years of DITSCAP/DIACAP work with this one individual) to check out my resume. Not sure what else they did, but they required a signed release that covered:

    • Employment verification
    • Education verification
    • Credentials verification
    • Past Employment verification
    • Criminal Records

So I suppose they could do a lot of research, if they wanted to... Anyhow, it sure feels great to finally get through the process! When I took my current position, I had six months to get my cert (DoD 8570 requirements). I made it with 10 days to spare!!

    lifecomm: Congrats!

Also congrats on getting the 8570 requirement met with time to spare!

I actually decided to pursue CISSP after seeing it on the 8570 matrix: all over the place!

This certification opens up a ton more opportunities for me, both on the military side, as well as in the private sector.

But, no reason for me to stop now, starting the Master's in July.

Just a note, I took the exam with you. No results for me yet either! I'm considering cryogenically freezing myself to simulate having actual patience. *lol* :)

@dustmop: Glad to see someone from the same exam group in here. Would you say we had about 50 or so candidates in the room? Still no results here.

    @ITdude: Thanks!

I took the exam June 4th as well. Please also sign me up for being cryogenically frozen until the results come out. I'm starting to have bad dreams about the results!

I was looking at the Endorsement form and it has a field named "Examination Number". Is that the candidate ID/certification # that ISC2 assigns the candidate or is that something else?

Yes, that's your (ISC)2 ID number that appears as "ID/Examination number" on the exam emails you get from the (ISC)2.
