rommon mode vs mini-IOS?

Is the mini-IOS that is talked about in the Sybex CCENT book the same as rommon mode? The Cisco ICND1 does not mention this mini-IOS. I am now confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    No.

An older router like the 2500s had the RXBOOT feature -- the stub IOS in the Boot ROM that let you boot up to fix the router configuration and or download/upgrade the IOS image within a limited IOS environment.

ROMMON, like in the 2600s, may have the TFTP download command and environment variables that let you recover/update the IOS image over the network -- but you're not in Kansas, or a Cisco IOS environment, when you're in ROMMON.

And ROMMON for a switch may only have XMODEM support for IOS image recovery.

    Thanks for the info.

The Cisco ICND1 book does not mention it.
