So after 4 years of sailing around the world of Higher Ed IT and living it up as the Remedy Admin, I am climbing aboard a more challenging (and better paying) gig. My new ship sails on Monday morning and I am joining this crew as IT Support III/Casino Systems. I will be working for Corporate IT in this company deploying, managing, and support their gambling systems as well as working on whatever other services get consolidated over the next few years into the Shared Services area. I am also going to be working heavily with the VP on the companies ITSM and GRC initiatives.
Guess where I am going?

BTW, a big Congrats to you. This sounds like a really cool gig. Hope you get free chips to play with every now and again! -
rfult001 Member Posts: 407Close, will probably spend some time in and around the Bahamas though. I don't know that I am allowed to play considering the nature of my job, but I hope cards are still available to me.

Nope, direct hire. My resume was sitting in the application pool because I had applied for another job a while ago and never heard anything back on it. I do have some Oracle and AMOS experience. -

Congrats! First ever IT job- Seminole Casinos, and still here ;p But you get a btchen view!
Im thinking you are indirectly supporting the gaming side? I would have to guess yes, due to conflict of intrest. Here, slots dept takes care of games and IT would be everything else.
Oh and have fun with Bally! HAHA -

Not to hijack a thread or anything...
I started another thread about job opps in Orlando, as I might be moving there soon for family.
Do you guys know much about IT work there, the state of the field? Thank you!
That does sound like a cool job. Plenty of room to move up I'd think. -

Sort of. I will be handling break/fix, planning, deployment, pretty much everything regarding the slot machines and cash management systems from the corporate office on-shore. First level for incidents will be the ship board casino techs, they would call us for help if they can't resolve something, and I'm supposed to be the last level of support before dealing with the vendor (in theory, but we know how that works). That is my primary function, but I am supposed to be involved in a few other projects outside of casino systems.
You lost me with the Bally thing. -

If I lost you on the Bally thing, then; you lucky SOB.
When you say systems you mean servers? I mean we support them indirectly, but our support stops at the CAT6 jack...
IT would not call the vendor for anything related to the machines including the cash systems, only IT related software (or Bally software). Im not even allowed to touch them internally.
Projects outside of the Casino, hmmm you must have cred LOL.
Again Congrats! -
rfult001 Member Posts: 407I'll be working with the servers and the casino software from end to end. I checked out Bally Software, no I will not be working with them. I believe we are using Iverson.
Some of the other projects include various parts of Corporate IT's ITSM and Governance initiatives and whatever other global initiatives spawn. There was some talk about me working with Sharepoint 2010, which I have a bit of experience with since my previous was an early adopter of anything M$. -

Yep, your talking over my head now. So I take it Iverson is your player and point tracking system? I believe our issue lies in that there are multiple Seminole Casinos and that player tracking works across the board.
