Packet Tracer help.. Why is my FastEthernt down?

This got to be something simple but I can get it working

What do I need to do to get the protocol "up"?

What's it plugged into? A switch with VLAN set and active? Correct Cable? FA1/0, right?

plugged into a switch with vlan yes.

speed/duplex settings on both ends - are they set to auto? if so, try to set them explicitly

Is there any assigned ports to that vlan?
Have you created the vlan the port is in?

Probably a Packet Tracer bug.

I tried an 1841 router (FA0/0) attached to a 2960 (FA0/1) and it didn't work. FA0/1 on the 1841 would work. The 2960 did auto configure at half duplex, but hard coding it didn't fix the problem. And when I replaced the 2960 with a 2950, then FA0/0 on the 1841 worked.

With packet tracer, what doesn't work (that should) with one type of device may work with another device -- so try a different router or switch with the same configuration.

And the fall back option of any simulator -- save your work. Exit the software. Then reopen the software and reload your topology and/or configurations and see if it now magically works.
