Old IT Books

ODNationODNation Member Posts: 48 ■■□□□□□□□□
So I have some old IT books (Windows 2000, XP, old CCNA, etc..) that I have no idea what to do with. I contacted the local library to see if they would take it, but the books did not meet their guidelines - another words, they were too old. I'm thinking about just ripping out the paper and throwing it in our recycle bin at work and tossing the hard cover in our card board recycle bin.

Just wondering what you guys/gals have done with your old books.

Recycling them is probably the best. If you gave them away via free post on craigslist or something, they most likely would get thrown in the trash.

I'd offer them up first, someone might be interested in old technology.

If you have a half priced books in the area, take them there. Believe it or not, those older tech books sell well for them. You might only get a buck or two for the books, but beats them sitting in a landfill.

Save yourself an hour of ripping pages, although that might be fun too.

You could check with a couple of other places, to see if they'll take the books off your hands:
    • A local community or vocational college
    • High schools around that have technology-related classes or clubs
    • Local 'Community Computer Clubs', (usually comprised of older folks,) who may find them useful
    • At worst, you could always send out an email to your friends/family/co-workers and see if anyone is interested in one, some, or even all your old books

And, if all that should fail, recycling is probably the best way to go.

You can donate to a thrift store like Goodwill or Salvation Army.

Regional libraries with used book stores will take them to resell. Goodwill also take them to resell in their computer stores. Probably a "free to good home" ad on Craigslist will get the best results for you.
