Router queue?

Hello all

Quick question, now i am hoping this isnt a stupid question but........

Say you have a two host PC's connected to a switch (FA0/2 and 3) and then connected to that switch also was a router with 10/100 port on FA0/1.

If PC 1 sends a 1GB file to PC 2, it will max that 100Mbit connection, and then show it as maxed in task manager.

But what if PC1 sends a 1GB file to the Router, heading across a 2Mb WAN? Does it send the data at 100Mbit a sec? Does the router receive it at 100Mbit a sec? I guess the question i am asking is, where is this data buffered? Obviously it wont fit down a 2mb pipe that fast?

Or otherwise does the PC know not to send that fast?

Thanks!

The router is going to buffer as it can, but its not going to have an endless amount of buffer space. Whats going to happen with a typical TCP stream though is that the windowing will figure out that it can't send that fast and back off stabilizing out your stream. If you are just blasting out UDP packets they will just continue to drop once buffers are filled.
