check out my perm!

Mike-MikeMike-Mike Member Posts: 1,860
Well, I started via a staffing company with this Support Desk gig on Jan 10th, and long story short, I got offered a permanent job, I counter offered, they accepted, and my paperwork is being FedEx'd to me and I should have it tomorrow, but they sent me the pdf and shipping label to prove it...

so, less than 5 months and I am a for realsie employee... I also got a mini promotion to do some Change Orders and work more e-mail tickets and take less phone calls...

life is good.. icon_cheers.gif

I also have an interview for what is essentially a System Admin or Jr. Admin job for the same company on Friday icon_thumright.gif

When I first glanced at the title of the thread, I thought I'd see something like hair perm - Google Search

Seriously though, congrats!! Make the best of the new opportunity.

    Congrats!

Did it start out as a "Contract-to-Hire"? Were you expecting at least the possibility of becoming permanent when you started, or was this a pleasant surprise?

the original job said long term contract, but once I was here for two months there was an opening I thought would be mine for sure, but then I was disappointed when i did not get it...

apparently you have to be here over 3 months, but still there are people who were on contract for years, the consensus is I am one of the quickest to go from contract to perm

Congrats on the permanent position! Well done.

I may not get the Admin job, but I wanted to at least get my name in their ear. But as far as the permanent gig, it's pretty sweet. I get benefits and a raise, and it just feels good to be an official employee instead of getting paid by a staffing company.

I accomplished this by working really hard quite frankly. I worked hard on my studies before getting the job, I continue to work on school and certs on my off hours, I come to work everyday early with a positive attitude, I wear a shirt and tie 90% of the time, i learn quickly, I request more responsibility, and my metrics consistently put me at the top of the pile.

so if they are looking to hire internally, I should have a strong shot at this Admin job. It's casual Friday, but I'm going full suit, and I'm going to sell them on Mike-Mike like it's the cure for cancer

This stuck out to me, specifically because of a job I had back in 2006. The manager told me, that he hired a technician who came to work every day, wearing a tie. He said that within two years, that technician was on the executive team.

So, just to increase your chances, wear a tie every day, please :D
